رصدت طائرة بدون طيار نهر “الحمم البركانية” المتدفق من بركان “فاغرادالسفيال” في شبه جزيرة “ريكيانيز” في جنوب غرب أيسلندا.
الحمم البركانية شكلت صدعاً يتراوح طوله بين 500 و700 متر في موقع الثوران، وخرجت على ارتفاع يصل إلى 100 متر، اذ انسكبت في الساعات الأولى من ثوران البركان، الحمم البركانية على مساحة تزيد عن كيلومتر مربع واحد (أو حوالي 200 ملعب كرة قدم).
وثار بركان خامد في شبه جزيرة “ريكيانز” بجنوب غرب أيسلندا، بعد حدوث آلاف الزلازل الصغيرة في المنطقة خلال الأسابيع الأخيرة، الأمر الذي أدى إلى انسكاب الحمم البركانية على جوانبه، في أول ثوران بركاني منذ ما يقرب من 800 عام.

يذكر أنه لم يكن هناك أي نشاط بركاني في المنطقة منذ القرن الثاني عشر. وسبق الانفجار البركاني سلسلة من أكثر من 40 ألف زلزال صغير سجلت في شبه الجزيرة في الأسابيع الأربعة الماضية.
وأكدت إدارة الطوارئ، أنها “لا تتوقع عمليات إجلاء، لأن البركان يقع في واد بعيد على بعد 2.5 كيلومتر من أقرب طريق”. موضحة أنه “لم تشهد شبه جزيرة ريكيانز ثورانا لأي بركان منذ 781 عاما”.

وكانت هناك علامات على اندلاع محتمل للبركان في الآونة الأخيرة، مع حدوث زلازل يوميا خلال الأسابيع الثلاثة الماضية. لكن علماء البراكين ما زالوا متفاجئين لأن النشاط الزلزالي هدأ قبل الانفجار.
